Surveillance & Immunization Officer (SSA)

About the role

The Surveillance & Immunization Officer will support WHO’s polio outbreak response in Angola, strengthening acute flaccid paralysis surveillance and coordinating immunisation activities across districts and provinces.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support to districts, zones and health facilities to prioritize surveillance reporting sites.
• Conduct active case searches using the ODK platform and ensure recommended visit frequencies.
• Assist in training health workers and surveillance focal points at provincial, district and sub‑district levels.
• Carry out advocacy visits with local authorities to promote ownership of surveillance and immunisation plans.
• Support the development and adaptation of micro‑plans for polio outbreak response immunisation.
• Assist in recruiting and deploying vaccination team members in collaboration with community leaders.
• Guide vaccination teams on daily work plans, itineraries and mapping.

Required profile

• Experience in public health surveillance or immunisation programmes, preferably in polio or similar disease outbreaks.
• Ability to work in field settings across multiple provinces and engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills for training, advocacy and reporting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the ODK (Open Data Kit) platform for data collection.
