Senior Project Geoscientist – 12‑Month Fixed‑Term (Angola)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Project Geoscientist to join our Angolan Greenfields exploration team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. The role will work closely with Rio Tinto Exploration experts to generate and advance high‑priority exploration projects, contributing to discovery and the development of new mineral resources.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical geoscientific support to identify high‑quality exploration targets.
• Collaborate with other geoscientists, sharing knowledge and conducting field activities such as mapping, drilling, logging and sampling.
• Generate targets through analysis of regional datasets, data integration and field reconnaissance.
• Create and execute exploration work programmes to safely test priority targets.
• Engage with service providers (geophysics, drilling) and compile technical results with clear recommendations.
• Analyse third‑party reports and provide insights on their implications.
• Maintain collaboration with internal and external multidisciplinary teams to achieve technical milestones.

Required profile

• Commitment to safety and a passion for field‑based discovery.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geology, Geoscience or a related discipline.
• 5–9 years of field experience in early‑stage exploration, target development and drill testing.
• Experience with Angolan geology and copper deposit styles is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
