EX Inspector – Electrical/Instrumentation Safety Specialist

About the role

The EX Inspector ensures the safety and reliability of all explosion‑protected (Ex) electrical and instrumentation equipment on board SBM Offshore vessels. Reporting to the Offshore Core Crew Electrical Supervisor and supported by the Onshore Ex Integrity Expert, the role combines hands‑on inspection, maintenance coordination and mentorship of the core crew.

Key responsibilities

• Create and close work orders for Ex preventative, maintenance and repair tasks in the CMMS.
• Manage the Ex Maintenance Management System (Ex MMS) and the Ex Certificate Register, ensuring accurate data entry, reporting and trend analysis.
• Provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to the core crew on Ex procedures and the use of the Ex MMS tool.
• Coordinate all inspections and repairs of Ex equipment, including third‑party inspection teams on board.
• Maintain the on‑board Ex Electronic Management System, handling data output, reporting and KPI tracking.
• Act as the Unit’s “Ex Responsible Person,” overseeing compliance with electrical authorization levels.

Required profile

• Proven experience in electrical and instrumentation inspection and repair on offshore vessels.
• Demonstrated knowledge of explosion‑protected (Ex) equipment standards and certification processes.
• Ability to coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams and manage third‑party inspection activities.
• Strong analytical skills for data entry, reporting and KPI monitoring.
