Head of Engineering & Maintenance (Asset Management)

About the role

This senior position will lead engineering and maintenance for a large open‑pit mining operation and multi‑stage processing plant in Angola. The focus is on building a structured work‑management environment, moving maintenance from reactive to planned performance, and supporting the ramp‑up of new crushing infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement work‑management systems, including asset register, criticality ranking, maintenance strategies, backlog control, planning, scheduling and shutdown planning.
• Lead reliability engineering programmes (RCM, FMECA, RCA, Weibull analysis, condition monitoring) to improve equipment availability and reduce life‑cycle cost.
• Oversee CMMS/ERP (SAP PM or equivalent) data governance, KPI management and integration with budgeting, contractor strategy and spares planning.
• Manage engineering across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, mobile fleet, workshops and utilities, ensuring safety compliance (isolation, lock‑out, permit‑to‑work, confined space, working at height).

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years experience in heavy mining or mineral‑processing maintenance.
• At least 5 years in a senior engineering or maintenance leadership role at a large open‑pit operation.
• Proven track record of implementing work‑management or reliability programmes with measurable results.
• Experience working in Africa, remote‑site operations and expatriate rotation environments.

Required skills

• Reliability engineering techniques: RCM, FMECA, RCA, Weibull analysis, condition monitoring.
• CMMS/ERP expertise (SAP PM or equivalent) and master data governance.
• Fixed‑plant knowledge: crushers, screens, DMS cyclones, pumps, conveyors, slurry, compressed air, water and tailings systems.
• Mobile‑fleet maintenance: OEM contracts, component life management, fleet management systems, tyre management.
• Maintenance budgeting, contractor strategy, spares and consumables planning.
• Safety leadership for isolation, lock‑out, permit‑to‑work, confined space and height work.
