Geoscientist and Angola Venture Technical Liaison

About the role

After returning to Angola in 2025 with a significant entry into exploration licenses, Shell is expanding its Luanda-based team with a Technical Liaison position. The role is the primary in-country subsurface representative, acting as a bridge between the Houston-based technical team, the Venture team and local stakeholders such as the regulator (ANPG), joint venture partners and other industry players. It represents Shell in technical discussions, coordinates partner and regulator engagements and provides market and competitive intelligence.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical focal point for ANPG and JV partners on subsurface matters, covering geological interpretations, prospect evaluations, seismic data, exploration work programs and drilling activities.
• Coordinate and facilitate technical meetings, workshops, reviews and ad hoc engagements with ANPG and JV partners, manage schedules, agendas, action tracking and follow-up, and prepare technical content for PPMs, RTMs, JOCs and other regulator review meetings.
• Build and maintain working relationships with ANPG, Sonangol, partners and industry stakeholders, ensuring consistent messaging.
• Track industry activity, exploration trends, licensing developments and competitor positioning, and share opportunities, risks and learnings with the Houston and Europe-based teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of upstream oil and gas geoscience experience, including exploration workflows, prospect maturation, seismic interpretation and basin evaluation.
• Fluent English and Portuguese, with excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
• Ability to work in cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams and to act independently; preferred: experience with Angolan government agencies and knowledge of JV governance.
