Cost Controller (Civil Engineer)

About the role

The Cost Controller manages and monitors project costs across all stages of construction, ensuring financial processes are followed and the project stays within its budget. The ideal candidate has a civil engineering background and strong financial acumen, able to track expenditures, prepare cost reports and spot cost-saving opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Control and monitor project costs, tracking materials, labour and other resources
• Review and verify costs reported by subcontractors, suppliers and project managers
• Prepare regular cost reports, including budget forecasts, variances and risks
• Analyse cost data and recommend cost-saving initiatives to management
• Assist in developing and maintaining project budgets and escalate variances
• Track and report on expenses with project managers and forecast future costs
• Prepare and track payment schedules for contractors, suppliers and consultants
• Evaluate and manage change orders, documenting and approving them and monitoring their impact on budget and timeline
• Provide data for project funding so cash flow matches milestones
• Use project management and financial software, develop cost control systems and keep accurate records for audits
• Report on cost-related risks and present financial reports to senior management

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
• At least 5 years of experience in cost control, project controls or cost management in construction
• Strong experience in civil engineering projects, including cost estimation, budgeting and financial reporting
• Large-scale construction projects highly preferred
• Certification in Project Management or Cost Engineering (e.g. CCIFP, AACE) is an advantage
• Knowledge of Angolan regulations, construction contracts and financial processes is a plus
