Urban Development, Housing and Solid Waste Management Intern

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a motivated intern to support its urban development, housing and solid waste management initiatives in Luanda, Angola. This 6‑month placement offers hands‑on experience in sustainable city planning, policy development and community resilience projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of urban and housing policy drafts aligned with national spatial planning frameworks.
• Support data collection and analysis for solid waste management and disaster risk reduction activities.
• Contribute to the development of reports and presentations for UN‑Habitat partners and Angolan authorities.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings and field visits to understand local urban challenges.
• Help coordinate the implementation of pilot projects under the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a university program in urban planning, environmental studies, geography, public policy or a related field.
• Strong interest in sustainable urban development, housing solutions and waste management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
