Team Lead, Engineering

About the role

Deel, an all-in-one payroll and HR platform for global teams, is looking for a Team Lead, Engineering. You will lead a cross-functional team of 6-10 professionals, with a balance of leadership (50%) and hands-on technical work (50%), delivering scalable, innovative solutions in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a technical leader who combines hands-on development with strategic oversight, designing, coding and delivering high-quality, scalable applications with Node.js
• Mentor the team, conduct thorough code reviews and ensure best practices in development, testing and deployment
• Work closely with product and design teams, promote Agile methodologies and facilitate knowledge sharing and cross-team collaboration
• Drive technical planning, define and implement technical strategies, run rapid prototyping and iterative development, and mitigate technical risks
• Represent engineering teams in cross-functional discussions, push back on product decisions when needed, and coordinate complex projects across teams
• Help hire and scale teams, manage performance cycles, give structured feedback and support professional growth
• Cultivate a culture of collaboration, inclusion, continuous learning and engineering excellence, and champion diversity

Required profile

• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including solid object-oriented programming (OOP) understanding and the ability to write clean, structured, testable code
• Experience designing maintainable, scalable systems
• Strong problem-solving ability, including root cause analysis across code, data and systems
• Experience working in production environments, handling incidents, debugging issues and managing escalations
• Ability to combine technical expertise with leadership, collaboration and attention to detail

Required skills

• Node.js and JavaScript (bonus points)
• Complex SQL queries written from scratch, with deep understanding of data structures and query performance
• APIs and distributed systems, debugging integrations and understanding data flow across services
• Bonus: cross-browser and cross-platform development, open-source contributions, and knowledge of additional tech stacks
