Postdoctoral Fellow – Peatland Conservation (wWINGS)

About the role
The wWINGS Postdoctoral Fellow will join The Nature Conservancy’s science team to support peatland conservation research in Angola and across the greater KAZA and Congo Basin landscapes. This two‑year, term‑limited position focuses on community‑based approaches to protect headwater ecosystems and mitigate climate change.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesize social‑science research related to peatland conservation.
- Apply human‑centered design methods to co‑develop conservation strategies with local communities and Indigenous Peoples.
- Collaborate with TNC scientists, practitioners, and regional partners to generate actionable research outputs.
- Support the development of tools, guidelines, and knowledge products that inform policy and on‑the‑ground conservation actions.
- Participate in fieldwork and travel (up to 10%) across Angola and other African partner countries as needed.
Required profile
- Early‑career researcher with a PhD or near‑completion in conservation social science, interdisciplinary environmental studies, or a related field.
- Strong motivation to work at the intersection of science, practice, and policy.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in multicultural teams.
- Commitment to applied impact and community‑centered conservation outcomes.
