About the role
The Gas and Low Carbon Managing Counsel leads the identification and management of legal risks for Azule Energy’s downstream operations in Southern Africa. The role provides business‑focused legal solutions, ensuring compliance and supporting the company’s strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Create and maintain an effective compliance environment to mitigate legal risk.
- Provide local legal support to international downstream businesses, delivering simplified solutions to complex or fast‑moving issues.
- Offer proactive, commercially‑oriented advice that aligns with strategic plans and escalates matters to the Managing Counsel when needed.
- Meet agreed deadlines and communicate any delays promptly.
- Support the Managing Counsel – Southern Africa in overseeing external law firms, tracking performance and costs.
- Build relationships across the business and with legal teams in Africa and globally.
Required profile
- Law degree with at least 10 years of experience in a similar senior legal advisory role.
- Strong understanding of corporate and commercial contract law, including indemnities, warranties and liability.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple conflicting demands and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Self‑motivated, organized, and able to engage confidently with a variety of stakeholders.
