Polio Surveillance and SIA Field Associate

About the role

Provide technical assistance for polio outbreak activities in high‑risk, densely populated and border provinces of Angola, focusing on intensifying Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance and supplementary immunisation activities at the municipal/district level.

Key responsibilities

• Support accelerated AFP surveillance, including training and orientation of district/municipal staff.
• Implement facility‑based active surveillance for AFP using online tools such as e‑Surv and ISS for all visited sites.
• Conduct clinical and community sensitisations on surveillance, case investigation and follow‑up of AFP cases.
• Collaborate in micro‑planning and implementation of mop‑up immunisation activities, including house‑to‑house vaccination campaigns.
• Monitor and supervise the quality of supplementary immunisation activities (SIAs) and ensure compliance with independent monitoring/LQAS standards.
• Provide technical guidance to provincial and district health departments to close immunity and surveillance gaps.

Required profile

• Experience providing technical assistance for polio outbreak response and immunisation campaigns.
• Ability to work in high‑risk, low‑performing districts and border provinces.
• Familiarity with municipal/district health structures and coordination with provincial health authorities.
• Capacity to train and orient health staff on surveillance and vaccination activities.

Required skills

• Use of e‑Surv online surveillance platform.
• Use of ISS (Integrated Surveillance System) tools.
• Conducting AFP case investigation and follow‑up.
