Petrophysicist – Subsurface Technical Expert

About the role

The Petrophysicist is a core technical contributor within the Subsurface function, delivering high‑quality formation evaluations, petrophysical interpretation and reservoir characterisation for mature and developing fields. The role supports field development planning, reserves maturation, well delivery and surveillance programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform open‑hole and cased‑hole petrophysical interpretations for new wells, workovers and surveillance operations.
• Integrate well logs, core analysis, test data and production information to build robust reservoir descriptions.
• Evaluate reservoir properties such as porosity, permeability, saturation, lithofacies and net‑to‑gross, quantifying associated uncertainties.
• Update petrophysical models as new data become available and ensure alignment with static and dynamic reservoir models.
• Develop and maintain data acquisition plans, recommend optimal logging technologies (LWD, wireline, NMR, spectral tools, imaging, etc.).
• Support real‑time operations, including log quality control, tool‑failure mitigation and rapid decision‑making during drilling.
• Lead post‑well reviews, capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement in data acquisition workflows.
• Collaborate with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, drilling teams and data‑management groups to deliver integrated subsurface solutions.

Required profile

• Strong foundation in open‑hole and cased‑hole petrophysics.
• Proven ability to integrate multidisciplinary data and influence technical teams.
• Experience with uncertainty analysis and data‑driven interpretation.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration across geoscience, engineering and operations.
