Junior Environmental & Social Specialist – Luanda

About the role

ESS is seeking a motivated Junior Environmental & Social (E&S) Specialist to join its Luanda office. You will work on a diverse portfolio of projects across Africa, supporting clients in mining, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and industrial sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Support the preparation of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs).
• Conduct baseline studies, site assessments, and field investigations.
• Carry out monitoring activities and ensure compliance with permit conditions.
• Coordinate stakeholder engagement, including community consultations and meetings with authorities.
• Identify risks and contribute to mitigation measures.
• Assist in implementing Environmental and Social Action Plans and Management Systems.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and client deliverables.
• Analyze data for impact assessments and risk evaluations.
• Ensure alignment with Angolan legislation and international standards.
• Support business development and mentor junior staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Management, Geography, Sustainability, Social Sciences or related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in environmental and social consulting for mining, energy, infrastructure, industrial or development projects.
• Master’s degree is a plus.
