Comptroller / Finance Director – Angola (Expatriate)

About the role

This senior finance position will lead the end‑to‑end Finance function for an established Angolan group operating in the oil & gas sector. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role provides full ownership of finance across multiple businesses and the opportunity to shape financial systems from the ground up.

Key responsibilities

• Lead monthly, annual and statutory close, preparing management and statutory accounts under PGCA and IFRS.
• Manage external accounting and payroll providers, ensuring service level agreements, quality and timely delivery.
• Drive the annual budgeting process, quarterly re‑forecasts and rolling 12‑month cash‑flow forecasting.
• Design, implement and enforce internal controls, policies and procedures.
• Ensure full tax and exchange‑control compliance (IRT, VAT, II, INSS, BNA).
• Lead project profitability analysis and act as business partner to Project Managers.
• Oversee treasury activities, FX exposure and working‑capital management.
• Develop the Finance team across the group’s portfolio.
• Assess and implement financial systems and tools to support growth.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Management; MSc preferred.
• Recognised accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CA) strongly preferred.
• Significant senior finance leadership experience, ideally with oil & gas exposure.
• Familiarity with PGCA, Angolan tax legislation and IFRS, or proven ability to adapt quickly.
• Advanced English fluency; working knowledge of Portuguese or commitment to acquire it.

• Advanced Excel and strong financial modelling capability.
• Knowledge of IFRS and PGCA accounting standards.
• Experience with ERP selection, implementation or rollout.
• Tax and exchange‑control compliance expertise.
• Treasury management and foreign‑exchange exposure handling.
