Assistant Resident Engineer – Water/Wastewater Projects (Angola)

About the role

The Assistant Resident Engineer will support the Resident Engineer in supervising the construction of wastewater treatment plant projects in Benguela or Lobito, Angola. This full‑time, on‑site position lasts approximately 22 months and requires immediate deployment after client approval.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily construction activities to ensure compliance with contract terms, technical specifications, quality standards and approved drawings.
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including site records, daily reports, correspondence, test reports and as‑built drawings.
• Review contractor submissions, technical documents, variation requests, claims and extensions of time, providing recommendations as needed.
• Monitor construction progress, quality control, safety and environmental compliance, and assist in resolving technical issues.
• Verify quantities, measurements and payment certificates submitted by the contractor.
• Coordinate with contractors, client representatives and other stakeholders to facilitate project implementation.
• Assist in preparing progress, completion and close‑out reports, and support testing, commissioning and issuance of completion certificates.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Hydraulic, Sanitary, Mechanical or Electro‑mechanical Engineering (post‑graduate degree is a plus).
• Minimum ten years of post‑qualification experience in the water sector.
• At least five years as Resident Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer on wastewater treatment plant projects.
• Two years of experience working in Sub‑Saharan Africa; experience in Angola is advantageous.
• Fluent communication skills in Portuguese and English.
• Valid work permit for Angola is a significant added advantage.
