Senior Project Geoscientist (12-month contract)

About the role

Rio Tinto Exploration is seeking a Senior Project Geoscientist to join its Angolan Greenfields exploration team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. You will work closely with the Project Manager and a collaborative community of geoscientists to generate and progress high‑priority exploration targets.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support using geoscientific expertise to identify high‑quality exploration targets.
• Conduct field activities such as mapping, drilling, logging and sampling.
• Support target generation through regional data analysis, data integration and field reconnaissance.
• Create and execute exploration work programmes to safely test priority targets.
• Engage with service providers (geophysics, drilling) and compile technical results with clear recommendations.
• Analyse third‑party reports and provide insights on their implications.
• Collaborate with internal and external technical teams (Ore Body Knowledge, Data Science, Geo‑metallurgy, etc.) to achieve programme milestones.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to safety and a passion for discovery.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Geoscience or a related discipline.
• 5–9 years of field experience in early‑stage exploration, including target development and drill testing.
• Experience with Angolan geology and copper deposit styles is advantageous.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
